We have something a little different, and very special to share with you today; Nicola and David’s Silver Wedding Vow Renewal, featuring a stunning bespoke Suzanne Neville dress!
The formal ceremony took place somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean on board the Queen Mary 2, and was performed by the ships Captain. This was followed by a more intimate exchange of vows at the Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Italy.
The Dress
Nicola’s dress was a bespoke Suzanne Neville creation based on on the Brompton, with some tweaks to fit with the occasion and Nicola’s needs. The skirt was adjusted to feature a much smaller train and the buttons at the back were reduced so that David could button them up on the day and so that Nicola is able to wear the dress again for other occasions.
Nicola tells us more about her shopping experience;
“As it was a silver wedding, I chose (after much deliberation!) a grey silk fabric with the top being the silk crepe and the skirt the silk satin as I thought this would photograph particularly well.”
“Emma was great – I am clearly not a ‘typical’ bride – over 50, not wanting a ‘typical’ wedding dress, but wanting something very special, and after having spoken to her on the phone, when I arrived at the shop, she had already pulled the Brompton (as well as the dress I ‘thought’ I was interested in.) But as soon as I put the Brompton on I knew that the look was exactly what I wanted to achieve even though there were ‘tweaks’ that I wanted to make to the dress.”
“Emma suggested that I attended the Suzanne Neville designer day and so Suzanne was then able to discuss what I wanted and sketch the dress with the skirt that I preferred.”
About the Day
After 25 years of marriage Nicola and David decided to celebrate in a very special way, choosing to embark on an exciting trip on the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship.
Nicola tells us more;
“We knew we wanted to have an amazing trip to celebrate our Silver Wedding and have always been interested in the ‘Classic Journeys’. Consequently, we booked our trip on the Queen Mary and were even more delighted that the actual day of our wedding anniversary fell during our crossing from Southampton to New York. David was always keen to renew our vows, but it was something we wanted to do privately as it felt – for us – to be a very intimate occasion to celebrate. Once we had arranged for our renewal on the Ship we then started to think about celebrating again in Venice – such a romantic city! And I got to wear my dress twice!”
“The ceremonies were very different- slightly more formal on the ship – with the captain, while Venice was very much about what we wanted to say to each other – and yes there were tears!”
“Both of us were surprised at how nervous we were – and how emotional the events were. On your wedding day, you are looking forward to a new life together and have a whole life ahead of you. I think with a renewal, part of it is about reflecting back on your life together and thinking about both the happy and sad times and how – for us – life’s events have made us stronger and bought us closer together.”
“Both events were lovely in their own ways – but renewing our vows looking across the lagoon in Venice was incredibly special and very moving.”
Thank you so much to Nicola and David for sharing their wonderful images with us!
