Ever since I have been engaged one of the first questions I have been asked is ‘what will you be wearing?,’ followed by ‘what sort of wedding will you have?’ Since a typical Miss Bush event is like a small wedding and I get to choose and work with all my favourite suppliers I have more wedding ideas than are strictly healthy and a really sound knowledge of how much a Pinterest inspiration board wedding really costs. The only negative is that planning is not a novelty for me.
Back in the warm sunny days of July I hosted a Miss Bush Summer party to celebrate the arrival of British designer Sassi Holford to the boutique. Sassi’s dresses are quintessentially English and celebrate the all that is gorgeous about a classic dress with added wit and eccentricity.
The dress Marilyn, a beautiful 50s inspired rose print gown jumped right out of Sassi’s collection and was the first dress circled on my fashion show list as a ‘must-buy’. From this starting point my brief to all my designers , suppliers and collaborators was English Rose meets Pretty in Pink. Also I do like to to bring pink back from being too saccharine sweet so I also wanted impact. The models got hints of Frida Kahlo and Valentino catwalk looks and the flowers just needed to wow my guests.
The catering was from Surrey favourites Two Many Cooks, bringing passion and creativity to yummy canapes, all on brief with the Surrey Hills classic theme. As I seemed to be constantly chatting I grazed lightly but had I been a guest I would have been doing that thing where you lurk by the door the waiting staff use…
Pink drinks were served from Brigitte Bordeaux – Taurus Wines’ new baby. The cutest vintage Citroen van converted into a heavenly bar. Pink bubbles and pale Provencal rosé made sure that the event was especially summery.
So I have effectively done a pink themed wedding and I loved it. Hopefully some of the inspiration in the gallery will give you plenty of ideas how to incorporate much loved classics into your wedding with a new perspective.
Also know that next time an invite drops through your inbox or letterbox that Miss Bush’s partners know how to deliver a fab party. Don’t miss out, if you are not already on our mailing list get on it!
The invites and flowers for a wedding should always tempt guests. How many times have you been seriously impressed by beautiful typography, witty ways with words or simply luxurious vellum envelopes. Similarly the arrival at the church, seeing the flowers, guessing the colour scheme all lead to raised pulses for the wedding addicted. Leah added flowers to the invites and Rosie Orr pulled out all the stops and all the flowers for simply magnificent floral arches both inside and outside The Chapel, bouquets and seriously impressive pedestals.
Hydrangeas joined roses of all hues to avoid the whole BHS Bride look where one colour is plugged relentlessly across chair bows to buttonholes. (There is no way you can work in bridal for as long as me without having ‘strongly’ held opinions… )
The party was pretty much cocktails and chatter but since I had a designer that dresses celebrities and royals there was no way Sassi was getting away with not presenting her collection. Carolanne, Sharon & I talked through the models looks with regards to make up, hair and styling. Sassi then shared her The Bride Decides concept and won lots of new friends and brides to her immediately!
Models Hannah and Donna are obviously blessed with height and cheekbones to die for but they are by no means waifs. Having now worked with Sassi for four months I can attest to the fact that her collection works across all shapes and sizes and we are utterly smitten.
