We’re delighted to share Sarah and Steve’s Surrey wedding on the blog today, with a beautiful relaxed reception that took place in the garden of the bride’s childhood home.
The Dress
Sarah wore Jesus Peiro 6000, a full skirted structured gown in taffeta mikado with a halterneck and deep v neckline with a big beautiful bow at the waist.
Sarah tells us about finding her dress;
“I brought my mum with me for the first look around, she walked in and saw it straight away. I thought I would go for a slim fitted dress with lots of sequins, but I’d always loved a halter neck. I tried plenty on that day, it’s amazing how many times you can get changed in an hour!”
“As soon as I put it on I knew, not in the cheesy way you see in the films, where I thought I would burst into tears, but I just felt totally comfortable, I could sit, I could dance, it gave me a waist that I don’t normally have. I LOVED it, when we left I couldn’t wait to get back and try it on again.”
Sarah’s favourite part of the shopping experience was our refurbished Victorian Chapel;
“The Chapel is beautiful. The dresses are in sections of similar styles, which as a very organised person is like my dream. I’d been to another wedding dress shop, where the dresses were displayed like a sale rail and I just couldn’t see the wood for the trees. Corinne was assisting me, and she was fantastic. I had said to her I was open to anything, and my only rule was that I didn’t want to wear a bra on my wedding day 🙂 She really made me feel at ease and made the experience really enjoyable, which to be honest i hadn’t really found looking around other shops.”
As this dress is so striking Sarah decided against a bouquet so as not to detract from the epic bow.
“I wanted the dress to do the talking, so instead of a bouquet I went for an arm cuff of flowers, which was incredible, and put Rosie to the test as she said she hadn’t done anything like that before. I had my hair up and messy, with the back filled with flowers, as the back of the dress was simple, I wanted people to have things to look at whilst we were in the church.”
About the Day
Sarah and Steve were married at Holy Trinity Church in West End, Surrey, followed by a reception at Sarah’s family home.
“Steve and I are very sporty, we met playing sport and it has been an important part of our lives from a young age. I have always wanted to get married in my parents back garden, where I spent my childhood playing games and running round like a crazy child. Steve and I have also spent lots of time there with my family, since he has been part of it for these last few years.”
“We knew we wanted a marquee, and with my family having played and taken part in most sports going, we have a shed and garage full of equipment, so we always knew we would decorate the marquee with all of the equipment. My favourite colour is orange, so that was the overriding theme, we had branches and greenery around the edges of the marquee. It was informal and perfect.”
“My favourite part of the day, was waiting outside the church! I couldn’t wait to get inside! I was so excited. The speeches were a very close second, and the food was incredible!”
Final Words
Some words of wedded wisdom from our bride, Sarah;
“My 2 main pieces of advice for other brides are; firstly, be organised, get a good spreadsheet on the go and update it religiously, your suppliers will thank you for it! Secondly, the wedding dress shopping experience, as fun as it is, can also be stressful, don’t go in there thinking you have to have a certain style, be open minded, and you will be sure to fall in love!”
