There is a phrase I hear repeatedly in the shop about dresses such as Eden by Jenny Packham. A dress so iconic that even persons remote from bridalwear have heard of it. A dress that the Google search engine fairies love. A dress that is so very desirable that pre-loved offerings show barely any saving.
The phrase is ‘not very weddingy’. *shudder*
Readers, I give you Yumie & Jeff’s not very ‘weddingy’ completely romantic, love filled, day of gorgeousness captured by stellar, indie wunderkind Joanna Brown. Ok, Joanna is not actually a child prodigy but in wedding photography she pretty much qualifies.
Thank goodness for dresses like Eden and her sisters. Dresses that allow us to celebrate love, unity and family whilst denying convention. Women as brides should simply be a mega-watt version of themselves, the ultimate expression of femininity.
I confess to knowing Yumie & Jeff. Jeff since he was a little geeky kid hanging out with my equally geeky little brother. Overhearing their conversations was like listening to a recital of Top Trump card facts. They were six years younger than me and a different species.
Jeff has worked overseas for years and met Yumie in Australia where they ‘officially’ married before returning to her native Japan.
Yumie I have only known in abstract – although she visited Senior Bush and dressed up a couple of years ago. Will, their son, I have watched as so many babies of far-flung friends, emerge as a cute baby and develop into an adorable toddler. The power of Facebook extended to Yumie’s faithful ‘liking’ of all Miss Bush posts. I love the thought of Bush being ‘big in Japan’ ( cue 1984 Alphaville hit)
So when it came to planning a British wedding Miss Bush & our Facebook page became the Japanese wedding planners bible. Here are a few Yumie extracts from our trans-continental chats…
Sound like a magical plan give me your magic on me too please. Do you know any makeup/hair person you can recommend to me?Steph from fairy nuff flowers :-)) …will be used at church and the nest and missbush
- I have requested the colour of the day as mauve, light pink and lilac. The photos will be by Joanna Brown. I got all those contact from your blog or web.
The dress may not be ivory, the guest list tiny & the circumstances unconventional. Miss Bush & I thrive on our clients being independent spirited with a love all things beautiful but not necessarily conventional.
It was an absolute honour to be part of Yumie, Jeff & Will’s day. It was the first truly beautiful sunny June day at the start of a gorgeous summer. An accidental analogy? Or just very weddingy…
