Our featured wedding today took place last October in the beautiful Walled Garden at Cowdray Park, featuring Miss Bush bride Lucy wearing Maggie Sottero Phyliss to marry her university sweetheart Mike.
The Dress
Originally, Lucy had her sights set on a Jenny Packham dress, however when it came to trying them on she found that the designs just didn’t suit her body shape. Thanks to Emma, she discovered Phyllis, a romantic tulle sheath dress with a plunging neckline, decorated with glittering Swarovski crystal embellisments to the waist and shoulder, with stunning intricate beaded embroidery covering the back.
Lucy tells us more about how she found her dress;
“Emma convinced me to wait a few more months as she had some new stock coming in which she thought would suit me.
Low and behold she was right, as I completely fell in love with the shape, style and incredible back of Maggie Sottero’s Phyliss dress. I was so lucky that she knows her bridal dresses that well!”
Lucy took her 3 closest friends and bridesmaids to her appointment, as after a few previous appointment she knew they would be completely honest with her, and knew her style.
“They are the sort of girls who appreciate the glass of champagne as you walk in for the incredible Bush experience! They aren’t the ‘crying’ type but they were all so certain that the Phyliss dress was right that I knew I couldn’t go wrong. We spent the journey home just talking about ‘our Phyliss.'”
“The chapel was incredible – it really did feel like an experience going rather than some of the dress shops where you are squished in to a little changing room amongst heaps of brides. But what really changed it for me was Emma. I’m not someone who would say knows what goes with my shape or has particularly any style but Emma was just fantastic. She was exactly what I needed and I would have completely trusted her advice on what looked good or not, whether or not my bridesmaids were there.”
“To be able to tell me that there is a dress coming in a few months which I would love and was within my price range and be completely right about it… well you can’t get much better than that for service.”
For inspiration accessorising her dress, Lucy attended one of our Accessory Days. As the Phyllis dress has a lot of intricate detailing, she decided to keep her look quite simple, opting for a Jenny Packham Tesoro Headdress to add a touch of sparkle to her hair and a simple light veil. Lucy finished her look with a gorgeous pair of sparkly Jimmy Choos, gifted to her by her Mother-In-Law to be. What a fab MIL!
About the Day
Lucy and Mike were one of the couples affected by the devastating fire that destroyed Clandon Park in April 2015. With just five months before their wedding date, Lucy and Mike had to find an alternative venue for their day.
There was a travel inspired theme for the reception showcasing the couples love of adventure, with gorgeous accents of copper and lots of fresh flowers to add to the elegant but relaxed feel of the day.
Lucy tells us more;
“We wanted our day to feel really customised to us – so you walked in to the wedding and knew it was ours. After Clandon Park was destroyed, we were lucky that we could pick up all the customisation and put it on a beautiful blank canvas like the Walled Garden at Cowdray Park“
“The whole day was incredible from waking up to going to bed. But walking in to the room just as you are about to walk down the aisle, and seeing all your friends and family smiling at you and your soon to be husband at the end of the aisle – that’s a pretty special moment.”
Final Words
Some wedding planning wisdom from our bride Lucy;
“Honestly….I would say a trip to Miss Bush is absolutely invaluable! I wish I had just gone straight there for my bridal experience simply because the chapel and the whole service you receive is so wonderful. It’s what a bridal dress shopping experience should be.”
“Personally, I would say just don’t get your “knickers in a twist” over the small details or what other people think of certain things – it really doesn’t matter on the day. We couldn’t have had many more serious & “big” things go wrong before our wedding day, which really helped us get some perspective on the smaller things – just remember marrying your fantastic other half is all that really matters.”
