Lucy and Simon were married in September this year, at an intimate church ceremony in East Clandon, Surrey, followed by a beautiful garden reception at Lucy’s family home.
THE DRESS
Lucy wore a customised version of Jesus Peiro 7046, which she made her own with the addition of some dainty capped sleeves made from beautiful scallop edged lace. Jesus Peiro 7046 is a sleek off-white cadice crepe gown with colonial chantilly lace panels and a stunning statement back – see more of our Jesus Peiro gowns here.
More about Lucy’s dress and her experience at Miss Bush, in Lucy’s own words;
“Miss Bush is literally 5 minutes down the road from my Parents’ house where we were having the wedding, so it was a no brainer that it was the first place I went dress shopping. I went with my Mum three times before I decided on the dress, but it was actually one of the first few dresses I put on. I almost didn’t try it on as I thought it was a little too ‘out there’ for a wedding dress. I wasn’t after anything too traditional, but I was worried the lace panel across the waist and the sports luxe feel to it might be a bit too unconventional.”
“After a few words of encouragement from my mum and the lovely Corinne, I put it on and instantly thought that it could be ‘the one’. The dress was just the right amount of ‘different’ yet I still felt like myself. I couldn’t commit straight away however, and I went away to try on some more. There was another dress I liked elsewhere but I couldn’t stop thinking about the dress and when I kept comparing it to the Jesus Peiro one, I knew it was time to go back to Miss Bush. I tried it on again and although I still loved it, something was stopping me from saying yes. I wasn’t convinced by the cut of the dress on my shoulders, and I didn’t feel totally comfortable with how it looked. I asked if there was a possibility of adding some short sleeves in matching lace to make it softer. Emma went into designer mode and within a few minutes fashioned some makeshift sleeves out of some lace scraps. It wasn’t exactly how it would look but it instantly changed the whole look and feel of the dress and that was it. I didn’t want to take it off and I knew it was ‘the one’. I went off whilst we waited for the designer to confirm it could be done and when they said yes, we went back to order the dress!”
“My favourite part of the dress shopping experience was knowing that I was in the hands of people who love and care about what they do really makes for a wonderful experience. Nothing was too much trouble and It’s clear that Emma has built up an incredible relationship with her designers. Corrine who was with me for my appointments was so approachable and she gave great advice and pushed me to try on several different styles. When we decided to customise the dress by adding sleeves, the confidence Emma had in what the designer would produce really put my mind at ease. She was absolutely right to have such faith; when the dress came in, it was even better than I could have hoped for. The sleeves totally changed the dress and I fell in love with it all over again. I received so many compliments on the dress and people kept saying how ‘me’ it was so I clearly made the right decision!
“I accessorised my look with a borrowed a Jesus Peiro veil from a friend (who is also a previous Miss Bush Bride!) and I had flowers put in my hair. For jewellery I kept it simple and wore some pearl drop earrings that were a gift from my parents and a delicate silver and diamond bracelet that Simon gave to me as a wedding gift. I knew I was unlikely to wear bridal shoes again so I treated myself to a pair of bright blue Jimmy Choos! I loved the pop of colour and I got a lot comments about them!”
ABOUT THE DAY
Lucy always knew that the wedding reception would take place at her parent’s home in Surrey, and the result was a wonderful, personal wedding filled with luscious florals and simple, elegant styling.
Lucy tells us all about the inspiration behind the day, and remembers some of her favourite moments;
“It was always fairly certain that when the time came, we were going to hold a wedding reception in my parents’ garden as it is just so beautiful and, as mum kept reminding me, “the perfect size for a marquee!”. She went above and beyond to get the garden ready and it looked absolutely beautiful.”
“I wouldn’t say we had a specific vision or theme in mind when planning our wedding; all we really wanted was a relaxed day that centred around good food, music and having all our friends and family in one place. I knew I wanted lots of flowers though and Kim, our florist did an absolutely amazing job. I trusted her creativity and she beamed at me when I said “just do whatever you want, you’re the florist!” The giant hanging flower display was the centre of attention!
Seeing Simon at the end of the aisle was a special moment. Everything felt right and I remember being surprised at how calm I felt. It really felt like it was just the two of us in the church.”
“Simon’s speech was almost completely in rhyme. Turns out he’s something of a lyrical Genius! No-one was expecting it and it was equal parts witty, cheeky and sentimental. One minute I was in stitches, the next he had me in tears. It was incredible and I was so very proud of him. He’s still getting compliments six weeks on! He also made a surprise appearance with his band for one song which everyone loved.”
“Finally towards the end of the night, whilst the band played ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ Simon and I were hoisted onto shoulders in the middle of a packed dancefloor. It was chaos but everyone looked like they were having the BEST time. That moment made all the planning worthwhile.”
FINAL WORDS
Words of dress shopping and wedding planning wisdom from our bride, Lucy;
“Take a minute to take stock of how you really feel in the dress and don’t be worried if you don’t get “that feeling”. I couldn’t have been happier with my dress but I didn’t get teary or emotional when I found it but I knew it was the right choice because I looked like a bride but still like myself.
When it comes to planning, stay true to what you want out of your wedding day and try not to build your wedding around the latest trends and pinterest ideas. It’s easy to get carried away with finicky little details but really all that matters is that everyone you love and care about are all in one place. Keep the drinks flowing, the music playing and everyone fed, and it will be the best day of your life. It will go by in the biggest of blurs but it will be a day that’s hard to top.”
