We’re delighted to share a beautiful Norfolk barn wedding with you today, which took place on New Years Eve 2016 at Sussex Barn, with our bride Katie wearing Suzanne Neville Iris for her wedding to husband James. The images were taken by Norfolk wedding photographer James Rouse.
The Dress
Katie wore Suzanne Neville Iris, which she made her own by swapping the existing lace bodice with the Opulence lace bodice, also by Suzanne Neville,which has an elegant scooped neckline and full length sleeves.
Katie tells us more about finding and wearing her dress;
“I cannot tell you HOW many compliments I got during the day!!! I felt a million dollars from the moment I put it on until I eventually climbed out of it!
I was lucky enough to have my sister, mother and grandmother with me when I tried on ‘the one’! I felt pretty special the moment I put it on then when I came out of the changing room their jaws all dropped and I knew we had found the winner. I felt lucky in many ways that lots of dressed I tried on looked and felt amazing and up to a point I felt I would have been happy in several of them but when I put on Iris it was completely different.
The dress spoke for itself so there wasn’t much I needed to add to it. I had some fabulous sparkly heels – the New Year vibe – and diamond earrings and that was it. I took the top off later in the evening and added some of my grandmother’s pearls to soften my neckline but whatever I added it was the dress that stood out over anything else.”
About the Day
Katie and James’ wedding took place on New Years Eve so they wanted it to be a fantastic party and to make sure that all of their guests had a great time celebrating!
More from Katie;
“The dress code was ‘morning dress and party dresses’ – I didn’t want any Ted Baker floral numbers-standard wedding fare!!! I encouraged sequins and glitter. It was quite a sophisticated feel with no gimmicks just lots of candle light and fairy lights.
I was really pleased with the fact the whole day felt like the wedding rather than just from 2.30 when the service began. Getting ready with my family and bridesmaids – drinking fizz, getting our hair and make up done, trying to complete the Times crossword – was just as fun as the main event.
I was really keen on the church service being just as memorable as the party afterwards. We had a great vicar – 86 years old – who used to play golf with my grandfather! He said his only condition of taking the service was that he was still alive!
We had Hark the Herald as our final hymn and the vicar had asked everyone to sing as loudly as possibly and I got goosebumps as I turned around and saw everyone singing their hearts out and looking like they were having such fun!
We then had mother-in-law’s sloe gin at the back of the church whilst we were doing photos.
I got on top of a 10 man human pyramid in my dress in the middle of the dance floor!!!”
Final Words
Some words of wedding planning advice from our bride, Katie;
“As you get closer to the day just remember that all your suppliers do what they do for a living and do it all the time so they will be in total control of the whole day, so relax, get on with it, and trust they will make it all run smoothly.”
