Appointments at the Miss Bush are quite odd things really. A million years ago in a different life I used to do business development for design companies. I would research clients, find out as much as I could about the company structure & ethos, identify the people I needed to talk to & got to know them a little before I went and presented to them. (No mean feat as this was before the internet!)
In any area of the wedding industry it is brides and grooms who do the initial research. As a vendor I hope I have chosen the right blend of images and information about Miss Bush to attract like-minded clients. I hope that the ‘word’ in the chat-rooms is that we are well worth visiting and that previous brides recommend friends, family & colleagues.
Sometimes, particularly on a Saturday, I feel like Russell Crowe in Gladiator giving a pep talk to the team.
“You can help me. Whatever comes out of these gates, we’ve got a better chance of survival if we work together. Do you understand? If we stay together we survive.”
Not that I am comparing brides to chariot driving, Colosseum assassins you understand.
On a quiet, weekday Ellen, her Mother & I whiled away a couple of hours choosing Azalea by Jenny Packham. No drama, no gazillion visits, no iPhone overload. We clicked. Miss Bush had the frock and as we shared the same tastes so I could also introduce Ellen to Bloomin’gayles and Leslie’s Cakes.
In her thank you email Ellen declares that she is
“…feeling so sad that we will not see each other in the near future, am still hooked on your Twitter and F’Book posts…”
To this end I am redesigning my website to attract more Ellens. I am employing Leah Spicer to make my website more Ellen-mentary. One ‘Elle of a design brief *groan*. This is not to say I want to come up with a blueprint that makes Miss Bush the same for everyone. The unifying characteristics of our brides are that they are creative, time-poor, love luxury, identify and completely adore working with artisan vendors that will bring something new and personal to their weddings.
When I open the door to bridal parties of six on a Saturday, Miss Bush can be the 4th shop visited that day, on the third weekend of dress shopping. The bride, Mother & bridesmaids are already awash with misinformation, have developed a siege mentality & the worst ‘pretending to text whilst taking shocking photo’ habit. On days like these I wish for a quiet Tuesday & a couple of hours of funny, calm and frank wedding dress styling.
It was an absolute pleasure to meet you Ellen. May your toes be ever pointy & married life a pas de deux – with added fireman hotness 😉
