Vivienne’s wedding photos have been sitting in ‘drafts’ for a couple of weeks. I consider myself nagged by Leah; a postscript at the bottom of each email from her reminds me that this is on the ‘to-do’ list. As I have the temerity to release a media pack, assuring paying advertisers that I will write sparkling content, it is with tea and dressing gown I take to the keyboard.
It takes a good dose of beautiful, shots of fabulous & a handful of magic to remind me why I do my job. This last couple of weeks have been entirely dispiriting. Whilst we all know I love an argument, it is usually provocative, fun & with a strongly held belief, moral or principle at its core. My job, at times, is all kinds of shallow. At times its life affirming. What it isn’t, normally, is grindingly dull, thrashing out insurance claims, fighting faceless bureaucracy ( Goodbye Cardnet, you have the decency of a Payday Loan company) & being offended, insulted & patronised by persons old & rich enough to know better. The industrial chic of an Acrow prop, the filth of collapsing lathe & plaster, the flat roof draped in cobalt blue tarpaulin could have romance if you were at the flirtatious start of a relationship with an old building. Even the presence of a handsome Structural Engineer with a mesmerising Caribbean accent could barely raise my mood.
This week sees the launch to the trade of the 2015 Jenny Packham collection. That, people, is a big deal. Put aside that I shall be internally conflicted; buying dresses versus new flooring. It is one of the most edifying, exhilarating & exciting presentations in the bridal calendar. The label – so ruthlessly copied & endlessly lusted after – has been at Miss Bush since dress 001 and has been fundamental to how I dress brides.
The combination of this bright spot on the horizon plus the sheer gorgeousness of Vivienne’s photos & her Jenny Packham dress, has dragged me up from the murky depths, & the bottom feeders with whom I have been consorting, to the luminescent, beautiful creatures on the glistening surface of wedding world.
Vivienne chose Jenny Packham’s iconic Elizabeth dress. Now called Ellie with a beading revision, this pure silk, light-as-air silk chiffon dress is as timeless as it is contemporary. The backless dress channels this seasons obsession with sexy plunge necklines. ( Are you all obsessing about getting back facials? Can you even have one?)
The beautiful flowers are by Jay Archer who has, in my opinion, totally nailed the ‘colourless’ white bouquet using the most bleached out pastels instead of white flowers to create pale simplicity. I also love the addition of the platinum Brunia berries that work so well with silver & Swarovski beading,
The Bush Circle of Love extended to Vivienne choosing the dream team of Carolanne Armstrong & Sharon Roberts on make up and hair duty. Soft, natural radiant – just a perfect wedding day look. Having pushed these two artists to extremes on editorial shoots it is always fabulous to get a reminder at how brilliant they are at their day job 😉
Thanks to Vivienne for sharing Aneta Mak’s gorgeous images, it is a privilege to get such access to your day.
Thank you also for throwing sparklers, kisses, Brunia & balloons across my desk to remind of my purpose. Long live the pretty…
