With a raging debate in my brain about copies, counterfeits, beautiful wedding dresses, economics & politics I have decided to take a virtual Valium and see what very little cash could buy you. In addition, what very little could buy you that you could wear again. I shall also offer the woman’s mag’ standard ‘justify your spending on £££’s per wear.’ Or, simply, spend in brackets you can’t lose sleep over.
Dear Reader – you will not get luxury products and famous wedding dress designers. You will not get any service – you are your own stylist. You will not have the ‘experience’ of luxury boutique shopping – for better or worse! I will include this as an occasional series, it’s always good to have a counter argument and plenty of suggestions for those people that shudder at the cost of some of our dresses.
My suggestion is to start with a £20 base dress from ASOS . Perfectly reusable, even if after two or three wears you tire of it it would make a great ‘getting ready’ dress.
Find it here Link Inevitably my next impulse after ASOS was their market place. I was going to add a veil but a 70s vintage lace cape is much cooler. Makes the outfit ‘weddingy’. At £25 your wedding ensemble is now £45. Wear again potential I would say is limited – get yourself some wedding photos with rock chick appeal and sell on! Find it here Link
Having got my first pair of Irregular Choice shoes this Christmas I can confirm that they are quirky & comfortable. They may be the preserve of the determined kook or genetically programmed geek but I like them. Wear again with slouchy strappy summer dresses. These, from their wedding collection are £59.99 in their sale
.

I just googled budget bouquets, the horror… Blooms are expensive. Marks & Spencer have an order service but their cheap bouquets are as fashionable as Per Una & twice as ugly. I will grill Gayle from Bloomingayles to find out what she would recommend to the cool but broke girl. In the meantime I would take your iPhone to Columbia Market with your boyf, take style blogger selfies as your engagement shoot and pick up whatever flowers take your fancy.
I would recommend RockNRoll Bride as a good read for the budget conscious bride. It slightly presumes that cash poor/love rich couples are cool and somewhat arty but I am very happy to live in that world. 😉
Top your look with ‘Emma’ the RockNRoll Brides for Crown & Glory headpiece to add when the cape comes off. Find it here . Wear again to festivals ( ok not Coachella) and for the launch of you wedding/cake/styling blog – because you will be one of those girls. Total cost of day to evening look £139.99
