Readers, brides, industry colleagues, friends, as you might of seen from the obligatory pavement cafe shot of The Lovely Marshy, Marion & I, I am in Barcelona for Barcelona Bridal Week.

Barcelona 2

I was at the ragged end of my tether on Monday & Tuesday trying to coordinate work, home & business. I have some ‘off-camera’ personal issues that are casting a pall over my plans. I wondered what on earth I was doing jetting away for some buying I could probably do off paper. I was on the edge of cancelling.

By Tuesday morning at 10.30 am when my trusty sidekick Leyla arrived along with the effervescent Sharon to cut my fringe I was venting, ranting, listing & bossing. I had 24 hours until I would be in Barcelona, I hadn’t collected my cleaning, the washing wasn’t done ( I have packed too few pants & need to buy some today) my home is covered with boxes of ‘cool stuff’ for the Chapel and my to do list was long enough to be seen from space.

In the midst of all this chaos I nipped into Guildford to buy a capsule wardrobe for Marshy & I! Extravagant you may think? Spending to compensate for lousy housekeeping? I say earned;  Marshy & I have been working every waking hour for the last six weeks . As I did that embarrassing, but permissible when you are over 45, thing of speaking to all the shop assistants  – the picture framer, the handsome man in Ted Baker, the superb staff  in Hobbs & the Chanel counter woman – and explained my hurry the trip was sounding idyllic. Yes,  the stresses and hard work have taken their toll but I have the most wonderful partner that deserves a sunny few days. some beer & a couple of new shirts at the least, In reality he needs a sainthood.

Thank you for reading up until this point! This is where the bridal bit arrives. Yes, this is a busman’s holiday. Like spoiling one’s partner, appreciating every thing they do and having a few days away to fall in love a bit, I needed to fall in love with the glamour of my job again. I need to purge the Farrow & Ball & cynicism in equal measures.

I have been treated by Jesus Peiro to an apartment sized hotel room, a spectacular fashion show where the dresses, styling, world class models, music and perfume brought a lump to my throat and a genuine excitement that some of these dresses could be mine.

I then had dinner with the ever wonderful Marion, the girls from The White Room in Minchinhampton, Forever bridal in Belfast & The Bespoke Wardrobe in Essex. It was so lovely to meet women whose principles match their passion for the ‘lovely job’ we all do. The fact that Jesus Peiro attracts, keeps & respects such great stockists is a testament to them as a company.

The literary quotes on travel being good for the soul are legion. My travel will certainly have been good for Guildford retailers & the ears of Team Bush. My travel is going to be good for my brides. I am going to buy some beautiful dresses for my beautiful new premises for my beautiful brides from a company whose provenance & ethics are second to none.

When I have worked out how (or rather when I fail & Leah does it) I will post the fashion show images. They may not express the exact thrill, the new eyes & reignited love I suddenly found but they are stunning dresses and while I am still here let me know your must haves!
